REVIEW: Cosmetics by PHB Ethical Beauty (Palm oil free)

2

So the other day I stumbled across PHB Ethical Beauty. Not only does this pioneering business sell a wide range of products from skincare and body care to cosmetics and hair care, but all products are completely palm oil free!

Feeling a little non-committal, I decided to take advantage of a great offer available…the 3 for £2 sample selection. As they say… try before you buy! This offer allowed me to pick from 5 different skin care products (gels and moisturisers), 5 different shades of foundation and 5 different shades of BB cream (each 1ml sample sachets), in which postage was free and 1st class.  As I don’t really wear make up (apart from mascara), it made the choice much easier for me and I ended up choosing the Brightening Moisturiser with Argan & Immortelle, the Skin Brighten Gel with Neroli & Immortelle and the Skin Perfect Gel with Aloe and Rose.

On quick arrival I was pleasantly greeted by 5 different sample sachets.

  • Brightening Moisturiser with Argan & Immortelle
  • Skin Brighten Gel with Neroli & Immortelle
  • Skin Perfect Gel with Aloe & Rose
  • Skin Repair Gel with Aloe & Lavender
  • Gentle Moisturiser with Shea Butter & Apricot

At first I thought it was a mistake, but having read the invoice I was able to see that they were kind enough to send me two extra samples for free.

So off to work it was! I decided to sample four of the five samples straight away (saving the skin repair gel for my up and coming holiday to Italy as it supposedly provides calming relief for sunburn…not that I intend to get burnt). All of the samples smelled so natural and I was definitely able to feel my skin absorbing the cream/gel. Whilst the Skin Brighten Gel and Skin were transparent, the two moisturisers were a white colour in which you had to really rub it in to get rid of the cream – a bit like sun cream I guess!

As my arms and legs tend to be dry, I used the gentle moisturiser on my arms and the brightening moisturiser on my legs (although I did have the tinniest bit of gentle moisturiser left which I applied to my legs). After having rubbed the moisturisers in, my skin immediately felt 10 times softer. A few days later when I was going shopping with my family I had noticed my legs were brighter, tinted almost…like a natural tan. But it wasn’t just me who noticed this natural tan, my dad did too! So either the brightening moisturiser is a keeper, or the coincidence of coincidences happened.

As far as the other two go, because of their special properties on the packet, I used the skin brighten gel on my tan bikini marks and the skin perfect gel on my stretch marks. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to see much difference when looking at my tan and stretch marks. Although it would have been a little far-fetched to have expected a dramatic result after the use of a 1ml sample. They did however, make my skin as smooth as a baby’s bum.

PHB ethical beauty have a great ethos. Not only are they palm oil free, 100% vegan, not tested on animals, halal certified and alcohol free, but also donate 20% of their net profits to charity and use eco-friendly packaging. So whether you’re using their products of recycling the rubbish away, you know you’re making a difference.

I will definitely be buying the brightening moisturiser again and no doubt will probably find myself buying other products from their extensive range!
